Robert Randolph 'Sam' Flannery II

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Robert Randolph “Sam” Flannery II, 48, of Powell, lost his battle with colon cancer Monday (March 1, 2010) at Kobacker House on the first day of National Colorectal Awareness Month.

He was born in Huntington, W. Va. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and the Ohio State University. He was employed at Hartford Pension Solutions Group where he was vice president of actuarial services. He was a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an enrolled actuary.

Sam is survived by his loving family who will miss him dearly — his wife, Tina; their children, Rayna, Rob, Anna and Alayna, all of whom he was very proud of and who showed amazing courage and strength through all of the difficult times our family endured over the last few years; his wonderful mother, Sally, who should never have had to endure this heartache; his grandmother, Susan Frazier; his siblings, Robin Debusca, Diane (John) Dye and John (Kathy) Flannery; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sam was preceded in death by his father, Robert Randolph Flannery.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 450 N. Liberty Road, Powell, OH 43065, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 5. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at the Rutherford Funeral Home, Powell, 450 W. Olentangy St., at Powell Road and Ohio 750, 1/4 mile east of Sawmill Parkway. Call 614-792-1471 for information. Entombment will follow the service at Kingwood Memorial Park, Lewis Center.

We have many wonderful friends who have shown us so much love and support over the last few years through all of the trials of Sam’s battle with colon cancer. Words truly cannot express our gratitude. Thank you all so much! Thank you to all of the amazing people at HomeReach Hospice, those of you who helped in our home and at Kobacker House — you’re all very special people! Sam was very intelligent and witty and certainly did live life his way. Until we meet again, Sam…we love you and will miss you! Keep watching UK — we’ll be watching with you!

In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in honor of Sam to HomeReach Hospice, 3595 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH 43214; or the James Cancer Hospital, 300 W. 10th Ave., Columbus, OH 43210.
