John W. Sampson, 72, of Hilliard passed away Friday (March 5, 2010).

He was a graduate of Central High School. John served nine years in the U.S. Air Force and one and a half years in the Army National Guard. He retired from Franklin County Engineers with 33 years of service in the survey department. He loved fishing, gardening, bird watching and his beloved bichons, Bela and Buster.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dixie (Bump) Sampson; children, John and Regina (Sheldon) Sampson, Sherry and Bradley Shane Reed; sister, Betty Bush; brother, Roy (Pat) Sampson; grandchildren, John Mathew Sampson, Peter Sampson, Bradley Shane Reed and Brittnay Reed; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Gianna, Caleb Sampson and Keira Reed; and numerous loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilber and Flossie (Mann) Sampson; brother and sisters, Virginia Mathews, Robert Sampson, Mary Roush, Carol Kelly and Donna Jean Sampson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Tidd Funeral Home, 5265 Norwich St., Hilliard. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rob Watts officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware.
