OWU athletes to compete on national stage

Senior David Gatz (Delaware Hayes) will represent the Battling Bishops at the NCAA Division III swimming championships to be held March 17-20 in Minneapolis.

Gatz will compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

Gatz won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in the 200 breaststroke this year, finishing third in the NCAC championship meet, and added a sixth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. He was an All-American in both events last year.

MEN’S INDOOR

TRACK & FIELD

Senior Steve Brown and freshman Silas Jolliff will represent the Battling Bishops at the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships to be held Friday and Saturday at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Brown will compete in the 55-meter hurdles and Jolliff will compete in the 400-meter dash.

Brown won the North Coast Athletic Conference championship in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of :07.65 while Jolliff won the NCAC championship in the the 200-meter dash in a time of :22.51. He also ran on both of Ohio Wesleyan’s first-place 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams, helping the Bishops win the 800-meter relay in 1:30.29 and the 1,600-meter relay in 3:23.09.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

Junior Kat Zimmerly will represent the Battling Bishops at the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships to be held Friday and Saturday at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Zimmerly will compete in the mile run.

Zimmerly won the North Coast Athletic Conference championship in the 3000-meter run, setting a school record with her time of 10:18.03. She also won all-conference honors in the mile run with a second-place finish.
